The “Composer”: IBM created this machine in 1968. It was a typewriter that used interchangeable balls, each with a font of a certain size. Texts were written as on any electric typewriter and were recorded on a magnetic tape. Thanks to fifth generation computers (1984) a matrix is no longer needed to form a letter, their design is digital and the computer is used to create the letter. This marked the end to any limits to the sizes and fonts used. |
