Synopsis:

Very little is known about the author of this text. It is believed that he was the cook of Alfonso I el Magnánimo (the magnanimous) and he was equally to his grandson Alfonso II, but it is not without doubt as to whether he existed, affirming that his name and his relationship to Fernando of Naples are ingenious inventions by the editor of the text, which were first seen in 1520 in Catalan.

The popularity of the work is shown by the many known editions not only in Catalan but in Spanish, and they show as without a doubt, to be one of the most interesting documents about old Catalan and Aragonese cookery. Many editions however, but by contrast, few known copies.

The best presentation of this book is in its own title, which the book says "de muchos potajes y salsas y guisados para el tiempo del carnal y de la quaresma; y manjares y salsas y caldos para dolientes de muy gran sustancia; y frutas de sarten; y maçapanes", sin olvidar los detalles relativos "al servicio y oficios de las casas de los reyes y grandes señores y cavalleros...", y todo tipo de "cosas... añadidas muy provechosas" (of many stews and casseroles for the time when you can eat meat and during Lent, delicious food and sauces, soups for ill people of great sustenance, pan fruits and marzipans, without forgetting the details relating to the service and jobs of the houses of Kings, great men and gentlemen and above all things that are good).

Without a doubt, let's enjoy them.
