Synopsis: This is the first treatise on animal poisons by the doctor and poet of antiquity, Nicandro of Colophon (2nd Century B.C.). The Greek text appears together with its Latin translation and an analysis (differentiated by the smaller italics used for its composition) by Pedro Jaime Esteve (c.1500-1558), professor of the University of Valencia and the founder of its school of renaissance-oriented doctors and naturalists. This is one of the greatest contributions in Spanish to the genre of editions of classic scientific works with accompanying commentary and it is also one of the most carefully produced Greek texts published in fifteenth century Spain.
