Synopsis:

Aritmética Práctica by Juan Andrés of Saragossa is, it could be said, one of the minor works from the Juan Joffre printing works in Spanish, the language of the majority of his publications. Apparently, two versions were made of the same edition dated August 30th 1515, dedicated to different patrons: this one dedicated to D. Serafín, Count of Oliva, and the other to the Bishop of Barcelona, Martín García. However, this information is only available from bibliographic sources, no copy of it having been discovered to date. Only five copies are known to exist in the world, two outside Spain.

The name of the author appears above as Juan Andrés of Saragossa to differentiate him from another author of the same name, an apostate doctor of the Islamic faith living in Játiva who published Confusión de la secta mahomática y del Alcorán the same year.

The news of this post-incunabula was incorporated by Bartolomé José Gallardo into his Ensayo de una biblioteca española de libros raros y curiosos (Essay on a Spanish library of rare and curious books).
