Synopsis:

These manuscripts are held in the Institute de France and are composed by 12 paper manuscripts, some of these are hand bound in parchment, others in leather and some others in cardboard.

They have different sizes; the smaller is the manuscript M (10 x 7 cm) and the biggest is the manuscript C (31,5 x 22 cm). For convenience, they are denominated with an alphabetic letter, from A to M and there are totally 964 papers.

These manuscripts deal with a lot of different topics: military art, optics, the flight of birds, hydraulics. Most of these papers may be dated between 1492 and 1516.
